Why Do Premium Coatings Choose Blue-Phase Black?

In automotive refinish coatings, 3C electronics coatings, and high-end industrial paints, the true "premium black" is never a single shade of black—it's black that is deeply profound and purely blue.

What Is Blue-Phase Black?

There are two core metrics for evaluating black coatings: blackness value (My) and color hue (dM). When dM > 0, the coating exhibits a blue phase; when dM < 0, it shows a red phase (brownish tone). Blue-phase black is regarded as "premium black" because the blue undertone makes the coating appear blacker, cleaner, and more refined—which is precisely why luxury automotive OEM finishes and high-end consumer electronics prefer blue-phase black.

However, achieving the ultimate balance between blue phase and blackness presents a technical challenge: high-color carbon black has a primary particle size of just over ten nanometers, making dispersion extremely difficult. If improperly formulated, traditional recipes may achieve high blackness but often carry red or yellow undertones, failing to deliver a pure blue tone. Achieving both blackness and blue phase requires precise particle size control and surface modification technologies.

Klarint Transparent Blue-Phase Black Chip: The Efficient Solution

Klarint Transparent Blue-Phase Black PBK7 Chip (SIC-S9784) is engineered precisely to overcome this challenge.

Nano-Level Pre-Dispersion—Breaking the "Dispersion Difficulty" Bottleneck of Blue-Phase Black

Klarint chips pre-disperse pigments to a nanometer-scale particle size, forming a stable dispersed state within the CAB resin system. This means coating manufacturers can bypass the grinding difficulties of high-color carbon black—traditional sand milling takes 8–12 hours, while Klarint chips require only 30–40 minutes of high-speed stirring to fully dissolve, instantly yielding a transparent, deep blue-phase black base.

Pure Blue Phase—Comparable to OEM Finish Quality

The Klarint PBK7 chip is formulated with high-transparency organic/inorganic pigments, finely wet-dispersed in a CAB system, delivering high transparency, high gloss, and strong tinting strength. When applied to automotive OEM or refinish coatings, it presents a pure blue phase with a full, deep luster—meeting the "zero-compromise" color requirements of luxury automotive refinish paints.

Cost Reduction, Efficiency Gain, and Consistent Quality

Minimal equipment investment: No need for expensive sand mills or grinding production lines—a high-speed mixer is all that's required to prepare any color base

Shortened production cycles: Reduced from 8–12 hours to just 30–40 minutes, enabling flexible response to production schedules

Greater formulation flexibility: Dust-free, odor-free, with no need for additional dispersing aids, and excellent batch-to-batch stability

Superior weather resistance: Excellent lightfastness and weatherability ensure long-term color retention without fading or yellowing
